Q. When are Ontario Savings Bonds on sale?
A. Generally, OSB’s are on sale during the first three weeks of June.
 
Q. When are the interest rates for the new series of Ontario Savings Bonds announced?
A. The interest rates for the new series of OSBs are generally announced on the first day of sales. For the new OSB interest rates, please click here.
 
Q. What is new for the 2011 campaign?
A. This year, the Province is raising the Dollar Limit from $500,000 to $1,000,000.
 
Q. Do bondholders of Variable-Rate Bonds purchased prior to 2009 still have the option of redeeming their bonds semi-annually?
A. Yes. Bondholders of Variable-Rate Bonds issued prior to 2009 still have the option of redeeming their bonds semi-annually on June 21 and December 21. All bondholders have up to 14 calendar days to redeem their Bonds.
 
Q. Will the interest rates on outstanding Variable-Rate Bonds issued prior to 2009 continue to be reset semi-annually?
A. Yes. The interest rates on outstanding Variable-Rate Bonds issued prior to 2009 will continue to be reset semi-annually.
 
Q. When can Ontario Savings Bonds certificates be picked up from the financial institution in which they were purchased?
A. OSB certificates are generally available for pick up from the financial institution in which they were purchased after the civic holiday in August, i.e., after August 2, 2011.
 
Q. Are Ontario Savings Bonds and Canada Savings Bonds the same?
A. No. Ontario Savings Bonds and Canada Savings Bonds are not the same. OSBs are 100 per cent backed by the province of Ontario while CSBs are issued by the Federal Government.
 
Q. Are Ontario Savings Bonds insured by the Canadian Deposit Insurance Corporation (CDIC)?
A. No. OSBs are not insured by CDIC. OSBs are backed 100 per cent by the Province of Ontario.
